Then came the birds

Finally my back piece is complete, 43 birds have flown in to complete my family dedication. There are a range of sizes to represent my family both big and small and the end result has left me wanting to get more. This tattooing thing is rather addictive! A big thank you to Noel at Ink Studio in Palmerston North for his talent.

We give our children two things, one is roots and the other is wings.

Half way there!

Three weeks after the event I can now share my latest ink. It has taken that long to heal enough so I'm not writhing in agony or wanting to scratch myself against the nearest door frame!

After lots of searching on the internet for inspiration I found this gem, from the moment I saw it I knew it was the one!

After 20 minutes of sketching with very scratchy pens (but nothing compared to the tattoo gun!) the artist presented this:

We decided then it was bigger than planned but would make an amazing statement on my back, but alas we didn't have time to add the flock of birds in this sitting. So I farewelled my family and the work began.

For 2.5 solid hours Noel created, inflicted pain, chatted, inflicted pain, chatted and finally finished much to my immense relief!

This was the end result.

This photo was taken the next morning and since then has completely healed so doesn't look so shiny and new.

I'm booked in for the 30th of September to add the flock of birds which will fly from the tree, swoop down by the bird wing for balance and then over my arm, some will also fly over the other shoulder. I was going to do different colours but now may just have black with 3 red ones for a pop of colour. We will see what the artist says.

I'm loving my new tattoo and can't wait for it to be finished...or may I can..the memory of the pain hasn't faded quite yet LOL!

Look at what is coming my way

You give your child two things, one is roots and the other is wings.

As soon as I saw this picture I knew it was the one, it symbolises my favourite saying and captures my love for both birds and trees. Something that became apparent after looking through my Pinterest boards, who know I would be such a nature freak.

Now you have to use your imagination and put these two tattoos together on my back and across my shoulders. The tree bird will cover an existing tattoo and the flock will have some colour in it. One red bird for my hubby Neil, two blue birds for my sons, two white birds for my two unborn children and 6 black birds at least for my siblings. There will be few more birds to complete the look.

I'm booked in at
on Sunday 15th July and the artist thinks it will take 5-6 hours. Bit like childbirth really, hours of pain and you end up with something for the rest of your life LOL.
Watch this space for the end result.

Too twit too woo

Following on from the simplistic owl designs of the previous post, these beauties really highlight the awesomeness of the owl.

Great placement and the glasses add a touch of humour.
I'm loving the greens in this ink.
Tattoo Brighton with an lovely rendition of an owl. Love the big eyes and breast detailing.

Hooo are you?

Owls, the wisest of birds and seemingly very cute too!

The red and black combination works well here to highlight the detail on a small tattoo.
Simplistic but lovely design
Detailed and very effective art, must have hurt like hell with this placement!
