Half way there!

Three weeks after the event I can now share my latest ink. It has taken that long to heal enough so I'm not writhing in agony or wanting to scratch myself against the nearest door frame!

After lots of searching on the internet for inspiration I found this gem, from the moment I saw it I knew it was the one!

After 20 minutes of sketching with very scratchy pens (but nothing compared to the tattoo gun!) the artist presented this:

We decided then it was bigger than planned but would make an amazing statement on my back, but alas we didn't have time to add the flock of birds in this sitting. So I farewelled my family and the work began.

For 2.5 solid hours Noel created, inflicted pain, chatted, inflicted pain, chatted and finally finished much to my immense relief!

This was the end result.

This photo was taken the next morning and since then has completely healed so doesn't look so shiny and new.

I'm booked in for the 30th of September to add the flock of birds which will fly from the tree, swoop down by the bird wing for balance and then over my arm, some will also fly over the other shoulder. I was going to do different colours but now may just have black with 3 red ones for a pop of colour. We will see what the artist says.

I'm loving my new tattoo and can't wait for it to be finished...or may I can..the memory of the pain hasn't faded quite yet LOL!

The Russian nesting doll is a great symbol of family in my opinion. The child is nestled in side a network of family generations who all have brought something to the child, love, patience, nurturing...well you get the idea.

Obviously I'm not the only one who loves these dolls, check out these examples...

nah nah nah nah nah Batman!

I grew up watching Batman and his trusty sidekick Robin on TV, the series that used real people and wham pow and bang signs with cheesy voice overs. Hands up if you remember!

Heres my tribute to Batman....

 POW!
 BANG!
 WOWZA!
 WHAM!
"Will he get there on time, tune in next week, same Bat time, same Bat channel to find out!"

Lioning around

Lion, king of the jungle and majestic. And like a true king he lies around all day while the lioness does all the work...sound familiar?

The majesty of the lion is captured in these tattoos....

Amazing, don't you agree?

Japanese beauty

Japan invokes thoughts of simple beauty, dignity and peace all things that can be translated well into ink as these tattoos show...

Bridge scene like the blue willow dinner plates

Beautiful cherry blossom and language

Geisha girl, dignity captured beautifully

I'm loving these little dolls, cute ink.

Look at what is coming my way

You give your child two things, one is roots and the other is wings.

As soon as I saw this picture I knew it was the one, it symbolises my favourite saying and captures my love for both birds and trees. Something that became apparent after looking through my Pinterest boards, who know I would be such a nature freak.

Now you have to use your imagination and put these two tattoos together on my back and across my shoulders. The tree bird will cover an existing tattoo and the flock will have some colour in it. One red bird for my hubby Neil, two blue birds for my sons, two white birds for my two unborn children and 6 black birds at least for my siblings. There will be few more birds to complete the look.

I'm booked in at
on Sunday 15th July and the artist thinks it will take 5-6 hours. Bit like childbirth really, hours of pain and you end up with something for the rest of your life LOL.
Watch this space for the end result.

Trees, trees and more trees

The beauty of autumn is prevelant in this leaf ink, is a real tattoo? Amazing if it is!

I love trees, they can be majestic, colourful, peaceful and skeletal.

A hint of colour makes this ink pop. It makes me think of winter and summer at the same time.

Weeping willows put me in mind of Alice in Wonderland sleeping drowsily beside the river, this tree reminds me of that.

Love the placement of this forest, is the wearer one among many, standing tall?

Winter at its best strong limbs awaiting their spring coat of leaves.

Tattooed dolls

A new take on a Kewpie doll, this looks much better than the pen drawn "art" on my childhood dolls.

 Lego rocks!

Customised wedding cake topper...good thinking!

New Zealand

We are blessed to have both beautiful birds and cultural art in New Zealand, here is an example of both.

This composition of the native flag and fern makes me feel very patriotric indeed.

Vegemite and paua good staples of kiwi homes

The beautiful bush is filled with these ferns, I love how they unfurl and grow into strong plants not unlike a child growing into an adult.

Steampunk inspired

Steampunk celebrates a bygone era, a time of invention, mechanics and awesome fashion. There is a huge Steampunk following so it makes sense that Steampunk is also celebrated in ink. Timepieces are a classic steampunk theme.

Hot air balloons and steam trains feature widely too.

Jules Verne inspired several pieces.

including these amazing octopus examples.

And to finish a classic Steampunk art piece with the often featured clogs and industrial inspired colours.

I see red

The more I see red the more I love it, these red tattoos are really effective without being overpowering as some black ink can be. A monochrome tattoo tends to allow you to focus more on the design elements and often these are more simplistic and have clean lines.

Blue is equally effective as shown with this beautiful bird, with so many colours available now why not think outside the black box.....

Love is in the air

Music his wife walked down the aisle to.

Because it would be boring to have all your work done by one artist!

From traditional love

to modern and funky love
Love can be shown in many different ways but the deepest of love must be celebrated with ink, from simple names to symbols it can be done tastefully...honest.
Happy Valentines Day.
